Scusset State Park, Cape Cod

Scusset State Park Beach

boats going through the canal
Scusset is on a gorgeous beach and the Cape Cod Canal.  The 8 mile Canal cuts between both sides of the Cape and the tide goes up and down, so the current is very strong.  Lots of different fish running through!   We went biking to the Sagamore Bridge – about 5 miles there and back.

The Bluefish story.    After a little mishap with the original saltwater rod, we went to the store and I bought a new rod for my deep sea reel.  We went to the pier, and the bluefish come in packs and you can see all the little fish jumping out of the water.  Whenever you see tonnes of little fish jumping down the canal, you wait and cast it into that group.  I hooked a gigantic bluefish and it fought really, really hard.  It took a long time and it almost went under the dock.   The reel was bending and I had it on full drag, and it was killing me.   We were using a lure that I pulled out of the water when I was snagged, and it was really good.  It was a swinger.   Right when I was pulling up the dock, it was suspended half way up – it snapped and fell into the water and I lost the fish.     Next time I will bring a net and try to get the fish  up quicker.  Today!
trying out the new rod!

a bluefish - but not the one we caught - ours was bigger!

on the beach!

The way the fish were running, one man said we |”could throw the kids in and we’ll catch something!”

Lobster is $3.99/lb at Market Place grocery store!  We've had it twice.  We got 4 for less than $20!
