Crabbing!

We are at Frontiertown, near Assateague, and there is a great pier for crabbing and fishing.

About the campground:  I like this campground because there is good crabbing.  It is sort of tacky and the sites are pretty close together.  You get to go to the waterpark for free - it is small, but it is a good way to cool off when it is so hot.

How to crab:  to crab, you have to get the bait on a special crabbing line, and when you throw it in, leave it there for a few minutes, and then tense up the line, so if there is a crab on, you will feel him pulling.  If there is, very slowly, pull up the line and see what you have.  Before it is at the surface, you have to scoop it with the net.

Stories from the pier:  So far, we have caught 5 keepers- at least 5 inches in width, and about 15 little crabs a day.

What has been caught:  This morning I was down at the dock and at the end, there was a guy who was catching a stingray.  It was 3 1/2 feet wide.  He fought it for 2 hours and 25 minutes.  Right at the surface, it broke the line.

Mmmm!
Cooking the crab:  When we caught some keepers, we put them in a pot and after we boiled them for 20 minutes, they turned red and they were good to eat.  We took all the lungs and liver out of them and ate the meat.  It was delicious!

Will loses his shoe:  When I was watching the guy pulling in the stingray, I saw Will and Christine and Jamie in the marshes.  I asked Christine what they were doing and she said Will lost his shoe in the muck, and we can't find it.  Eventually, they gave up, but they found another shoe that didn't belong to him, but he wore it.
