Holiday Trav-L Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Holiday RV, Virginia Beach – a truly unique campground, and we will be returning! 4 pools, shuttle to the beach, amazing bike paths at the beach, free parking at the beach for campers if you do decide to drive.

coffee shop, entrance to one pool
A couple stores throughout the campground

interesting statues which add character

Parties at night with bands and anything goes – no people running around exerting rules at 11pm, yelling at kids to tone it down, or cars to slow down. But everyone is reasonable. Parents are responsible for their own kids, and everyone has fun. This is what camping is meant to be like. (if you like a little action and excitement – it is not quiet here!  Sometimes we get tired of the heavy-handed campground owners when most people are being really good....) people singing and dancing at night – partying by the pool, throwing balls in the pool. Fun!
Finally a place where we are allowed to have fun in the pool!

Bands at night by the pool!

Mostly French Canadians – we were some of the few English.  Amazing sites and amazing rigs!

We want a grape myrtle tree!

And the jets!!! the jets – fly over every 5 minutes – the park seems to be directly beside Oceana Air Force Base - early in the week – Monday, seemed to be training day, and they were every five minutes – low, low, low – just over the campground.

How low can you go?  Very low!!

Huge, clean, well kept, close to town – has everything!

Did we mention they have interesting statues?

another pool....

and another....

Love the sound of the cicadas at night! (combined with jets and party music!)

Mom went to the hospital - blood clot!   Lesson learned - get out during long drives and walk around!   This is the site that made us realize we needed to go to the hospital!    We were lucky!  Check it out!

We will be back to Virginia Beach - amazing boardwalk, great atmosphere!  Amazing hospital- great to Canadians!  Thank-you!

Assateague State Park, Maryland

We still love Maryland, and keep coming back.   This year we decided to try Assateague State Park – nice warm showers, sites closer together than the National Park, but we were super close to the ocean - an amazing way to enjoy the super hot weather!

Went go-karting at Grand Prix – can't miss that tradition!

We do love Ocean City.   Had to hit Mug and Mallet AGAIN!

Mug and Mallet - can't have a more fun and messy dinner than this!

Mom loves the beach- the dog remembered jumping the waves.

Jumping waves!
Beautiful blue sky, warm water. Saw the dolphins and the horses again on the first day. A whole pod of dolphins played in front of us for a long time.

Sites are near the dunes – scraggly grass – right out in the open – so hot! Hot! Hot! But we like the heat – we can hear the waves crashing in at night – best sound in the word! Horses are still walking around the campground. Beautiful mom and baby were going through the garbage right across from us – Sarge just sits there , doesn't phase him at all.  Another day Momma and baby fell took a nap at our neighbours site.
Our site at Assateague State Park - with a visitor!
Mom and baby visiting our neighbour - their dog was so good!

Mom is having a very sore leg – don't know what is wrong - might have to get it checked out.

This spot has the most beautiful beach in the world.  We went down our last night - only ones on the beach!   Magic!

Leisure Point, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

We have been a bit slow about posting, but we are going to backtrack and post some photos and info. - better late than never!   The next spot was Rehoboth Beach - one of our favourite places.  This time we tried a different spot - between the no power, sand and bugs at Cape Henlopen (Still one of the most beautiful places) or the parking lot atmosphere of Delaware Seashore, we were looking for something more inbetween.
All the pontoon boats at Leisure Point

So that brought us to Leisure Point, Millsboro, Delaware - about 1/2 hour away from the beach.

the pool

A great, clean park about 1/2 from the Beaches – Rehoboth or Cape Henlopen. We like to be a little closer, but this park has a lot of seasonals who are there for the summer or retirement. Super friendly people – who told us what restaurants to go to – Nicola's Pizza, Big Fish Seafood ( next time!) . Nicola's was great pizza where all the locals go at the beach.

Love the strip of stores and lively action at Rehoboth Beach. Lots of fishermen at Leisure Point and tonnes of Pontoon boats – quite the life for retirement!

Went into Cape Henlopen – probably our favourite day here – did biking along the trails – climbed up the lookout tower at Fort Miles again.   We love the landscape here – rugged, windswept, sandy.

Exploring Fort Miles at Cape Henlopen

The waves at the beach were huge! Unswimmable for kids – but that was just the day.

Then went to their fishing pier, where Trent spent a few more hours – with no throwbacks, no keepers.  Hopefully our luck will change!   Others were pulling up some smaller flouder and striped bass.

Cape Henlopen Pier - never give up!

Cape Henlopen Pier - always a great place to hang out - even on a cloudy day!

Last day, just hung at the pool here, and the boys went down to the crabbing pier – met other teenagers and were gone for hours – 3 crabs – ate them that night – lots of work for little meat.  What a fun, super place.

Crabbing at the pier - a great way to meet people!

Customer Service is everything! Sometimes the unexpected happens, and it can be stressful! Kudos to the following campgrounds – when we had a medical emergency they were SO understanding about cancelling and refunding money – they showed that they truly cared about their campers and not just making money. Otter Lake Camping, Pennsylvania, KOA Cape Hatteras, and Twin Grove RV Resort, Pennsylvania. We might not have made it this time, but because of your excellent customer service, we will definitely make sure we get to your campgrounds soon and will send our friends!

Green Lakes State Park, near Syracuse, New York

The 2014 Summer Adventure begins!  5 weeks with a big loop down to North Carolina!  First stop is Green Lakes State Park, Fayetteville, New York.  It is a gorgeous little town to dirve through, with beautiful homes and shops.

Nice, big grassy sites.  We were in Rolling Hills - site 106, higher up and farther from the beach, but big, grassy sites.

Green Lakes State Park - nice sites for the big rigs!

Will - the lake is a gorgeous green colour because of the calcium cabronate.  There were lots of places to bike - big hills!  There is a giant lake to walk around and a nice beach.  Mom's great idea to walk around the lake - long walk!  Tonnes of joggers and walkers.

photos by Will!

No ticks to be seen - thank goodness!   Lots of blackberries though which involved jumping into the bushes.

Even teensagers like pigging out on blackberries!
Very sweet tow vehicle!  Much better on the hills of New York and Pennsylvania!     Headed south now - time to find the hot weather!  only about 70 in New York!

What the heck?  In Canada, diesel is the cheapest gas -cheaper than regular -  here it is the most expensive!  $4.25/gallon - who would have thought?
